The Town of Ault requires Fence Permits within the town limits.
Guidelines for fence construction located within the Town of Ault
All fences are required to have a permit issued by the town prior to construction. (Town Code15.06.010)
The following regulations (Town Code 17.02.060) shall govern all fences to be constructed or reconstructed within the Town. It is unlawful for any person in possession of any property in the Town as owner or tenant to:
1. Construct or maintain within the Town, any fence with the intent of charging it with electricity or equipping any fence in such a manner as to make it possible to charge it with electricity.
2. Construct or maintain a fence constructed of barbed wire, tin or sheet metal or part of any of those materials; except in districts zoned for industrial or commercial usage, or with the approval of the board by variance. Barb wire may only be allowed as a topping for woven wire security fence, provided the barbed wire is no closer than six feet (6’) to the ground.
No fence, wall, or other obstruction shall be constructed between the street line and the front setback line of twenty five feet (25’) on any street, except it shall be permissible to construct a fence of such material or in such a manner, that visibility though said fence shall not be less than fifty percent (50%) and said fence shall not exceed forty two inches (42”) in height from top elevation of curb.
On corner lots within any zone, no fence, wall, shrubbery, tree or sign shall be erected, placed or planted within seventy-five feet (75’) from the center point of the intersection, and there shall be a setback of twenty-five feet (25’) setback on the side of the lot facing the street.
Fences behind the front setback line cannot exceed six feet in height.
Fences Cannot be constructed within 4 ft of a fire hydrant.
Fences cannot interfere with water meter pits or curb stops. Access to meter pits and curb stops is required.
Prohibited materials for residential fences: Razor wire, barbed wire, tin, sheet metal, wood scraps, pallets or any unsightly materials.

All applications and attached submittals (such as drawings and photographs) can be emailed to licensing@aultcolorado.gov and payments can be made either by check, cash or money order in the mail or in person, or by credit/debit card in person.
